Diverse research opportunities
Research in the Faculty of Education and Social Work contributes to
improving the educational and social wellbeing of society. Our research
harnesses the vast potential that diversity brings to education, social work,
counselling and social and community leadership.
Our research strengths include applied theatre in education; educational
leadership; education and schooling success for diverse communities
within New Zealand; health education, physical education and sports
studies; Māori and indigenous language revitalisation, language education
and language policy; and social work practice strategies for promoting the
wellbeing of diverse populations.
Our collaborative engagement with schools and communities of practice
has enabled the faculty to secure significant funding for research and
professional fellowships as well as postgraduate study scholarships for
outstanding researchers from New Zealand and around the world.
Flexible study options to suit working
professionals
We understand the demands on busy professionals and the need to
balance study with work and other commitments. That’s why we have
developed a range of taught programmes that can be studied part-time
with flexible delivery options. Many of our courses are offered in the
evening, online, during the school holidays (block intensive) or as a blend
of face-to-face and online study. Having three campuses in Auckland
and one campus in Northland enables our postgraduate students to
access University library resources, support services and highly qualified
supervisors whilst studying close to home.

Taught courses are delivered mainly at Epsom Campus. Some courses are
delivered at our City and Manukau Campuses as a convenient location for
those living or working nearby. The Tai Tokerau Campus offers postgraduate
students based in Northland the opportunity to connect with expert
supervisors whilst conducting their research. Students from all campuses
have access to all University library and student support services.
