Postgraduate Certificate in Social and
Community Leadership
One semester full-time (part-time options available)
This certificate is offered as a qualification to develop advanced skills
in social and community leadership and practice, and build your ability
to lead and innovate across community, government, not-for-profit and
social-good sectors.
Take two 15-point core courses in social and community leadership and
leading social innovation, and a 30-point elective course (or two 15-point
courses) to complete this 60-point certificate.*
You can choose from elective courses across the University in a wide
range of topics including policy appraisal and development, community
and environmental psychology, programme evaluation, human service
management, family counselling, youth development, social justice, health
and wellbeing, and managing and developing people.
This is also a pathway into the Master of Social and Community Leadership.
If you complete this certificate with a GPA of 5 or higher, you can credit
the courses passed to the Master of Social and Community Leadership,
provided that the postgraduate certificate has not been awarded.
To apply for this programme, you need to have either a bachelors degree
with at least 60 points in social science subjects, or an undergraduate
degree in a related field with at least two years’ experience in community,
government, not-for-profit or social-good sectors.

One-and-a-half years full-time (up to three years part-time)
This masters degree is a qualification to really get you prepared for leading
for change. It is grounded within a strong social justice framework and
designed for curious, committed practitioners who want to develop
advanced capabilities in leadership, programme design, implementation,
and evaluation, to innovate for social change.
This 180-point programme* is flexibly designed to suit those working
full-time or part-time. It comprises core courses from the postgraduate
certificate and a 30-point elective course (or two 15-point courses) to
enable you to go deeper into your area of interest. It then advances to
include a research methods course and a 90-point research thesis project.
The thesis project can be focused on a need or opportunity within your
current organisation or community and gives you real-life, in-depth
experience as you build strong research, investigative and evaluative
abilities.
The elective courses of this programme can be selected from a range
of courses offered by the faculties of Education and Social Work, Arts,
Science, and Medical and Health Sciences. You will have the guidance and
support of an experienced supervisor throughout your research.
To be admitted to this programme, you must have a bachelors degree with
at least 60 points in social science subjects (or an equivalent qualification)
with a GPA or GPE of 5 or higher.
